Our History

The Cuban Ship Registry, commercially known as RCB Classification Society, was created on January 21, 1982, by the Cuban State, attached to the Ministry of Transportation. With the fundamental objective of acting on its behalf to verify compliance with the international conventions of the world maritime community of which it is a signatory, at the same time creating a body of Rules and Regulations that will constitute the appropriate technical standard during the design, construction , operation and repair of the national fleet.

Its activity as a Classification Society is not for profit nor is it guided by commercial interests, prioritizing its social function of helping to guarantee the safety of navigation and general transportation, as well as the preservation of the environment, the approval of projects, the approval of the safety of hydrotechnical works and other transportation infrastructure, the approval of processes, services, products, equipment, materials, and consulting and advisory services for the implementation of management systems, among others.

The RCB has its legal address at 5th Avenue No. 1202 between 12 and 14 Miramar, Playa, Havana, Cuba. It has 5 UEB called Inspection Offices, located two in Havana and others respectively in Cienfuegos, Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba, with inspectors based in the main ports of the country.

It was the first Cuban state organization to certify its Quality Assurance System according to the ISO 9001 standard, in 1996, it continues with this condition until today, when said certification covers an Integrated Management System (Quality, Environment and Safety and Health at work). In recent years we have obtained top recognitions, among other important ones, the Giraldilla prize for business excellence granted by the Government of Havana and the National Quality Prize granted by the Government of the Republic of Cuba.
